Sharingan

Sharingan Unveiled: From Anime Fantasy to Real-World Wonder

Spread the love

The popularity of the anime series Naruto and Naruto Shippuden is a feat not hidden in any leaf, it is as out there as can be, but have you ever asked yourself, why is the story of a possessed of monster possessed, an alien descendant orphan boy with pervert sensei so popular?

If you have not, now do not even need to, as I have.

Well for one the lessons it imbued in us all, ever important lessons such as, never give up, and never leave your teammates behind.

The amazing, breath-halting fights and the super interesting character developments, the importance given to the majority of the side characters, some all-time fan favorites like Kakashi and Itachi or the ever-inspiring story, the references to various mythologies for the nerds and the Kawai kunoichis for the pervs, it had it all, never has there been nor can there be a more complete package of an anime to watch and rewatch.

Despite all these being more than enough to make the greatest of all time, Masashi Kishimoto Sama was not satisfied, he gave us the most popular and most menacing visual prowess in all of fiction to date, the Sharingan.

In this article, we are going to go into detail about this absolute banger of creation, but not how you would expect it. I can vouch for all previous, present, and future Otakus who are a hundred percent interested in having a pair of Sharingan for their eyes, let us analyze how its abilities function in the real world and strengthen the daydreaming.

The Sharingan along with being a fan-favorite in itself is also the inspiration behind many future fan-favorite visual prowess such as Kurapika’s scarlet eye (improves his strength and focus; a lowkey 2 tomei sharingan) and Gojo’s Six Eye which can distort time and space to reshape reality (Genjutsu much), and many others directly or indirectly, Sharingan’s success paved the way for majority of the visual prowess to follow it.

Forms

A collection of sharingan

First appearing in Naruto Episode #5, the Sharingan is a powerful Uchiha bloodline kekkei genkai that grants the user two broad abilities: the Eye of Insight (Dosatsugan) and the Eye of Hypnotism (Saimingan).

The Sharingan is awakened through intense emotional trauma, such as intense loss. It is also possible to awaken the Sharingan by receiving/snatching a Sharingan from another user.

The Sharingan has three main forms:

Sharingan

  • One-Tomoe Sharingan: This is the most basic form of the Sharingan, with one tomoe in each eye. It grants the user enhanced perception and the ability to see the chakra.
  • Two-Tomoe Sharingan: This form is more powerful, with two tomoe in each eye. It grants the user the ability to copy any jutsu they see, as well as improved predictive capabilities.]
  • Three-Tomoe Sharingan: This is the most powerful form of the Sharingan, with three tomoes in each eye. It grants the user all of the abilities of the previous forms, as well as the ability to cast powerful genjutsu.

If we wish to manifest the Sharingan in the real world, we need to start by implanting the ability for the eyes to transmutate based on our emotional spectrum into our DNA, which might be possible in a few years.

I know everyone wishes to have the Sharingan now but if you just make a lens which can transform and even make you more predictive and make you see faster by connecting to your brain through your optic nerve, the body itself would not be adjusted to the reflex momentum you wish to carry out and you will end up either over-tiring oneself or hurting your muscles by moving them too fast, even if you counter that by a LOT of physical training, your heart would fail as it won’t be able to supply blood to your muscles at the pace at which you intent to use them.

With the Sharingan imprinted in the DNA like the Uchihas, you probably will be born ready to wield it and handle the consequences.

Entering the big leagues now, the Mangekyo Sharingan is an even more powerful form of the Sharingan that can be awakened by experiencing an even higher degree of insufferable trauma.

First appearing in Naruto Chapter #142 & Naruto Episode #82, the Mangekyo Sharingan is incredibly powerful, but it also comes with a heavy price. Using Mangekyo Sharingan abilities can severely damage the user’s eyes and eventually lead to blindness. The Mangekyo Sharingan grants the user unique abilities that are specific to each user. Some of the most well-known Mangekyo Sharingan abilities include:

Amaterasu: Named after the Japanese Sun God, first appearing in Naruto Chapter #148 & Naruto Episode #85, this ability originally belonged to Itachi, this ability allows the user to create black flames that can burn anything.

To perform this in the real world your iris needs to be fire-proof while having the ability to accurately squirt a substance that adapts to the chemistry of the object it gets in contact with and burns it instantly and till its last atom, basically a flammable chemically parasitic solution which sadly does not exist and I do not see why would anyone even attempt to create it other than it is a very cool concept.

If such a technology is created humans will just get another chemical weapon for war, so let’s just not.

Susanoo: Named after the Japanese Wind God, first appearing in Naruto Chapter #391 & Naruto Shippūden Episode #138, this ability can be used by every powerful Sharingan wielder, this ability allows the user to create a giant ethereal warrior that protects them from harm and can be used to attack their opponents.

This can be done very easily in Artificial Reality modules but in real life, the closest we can come to it is having a giant hologram projection around us, but goes without saying that has zero attack or defence.

Kotoamatsukami: In Shinto, Kotoamatsukami is the collective name for the first gods that came into existence at the time of the creation of the universe.

First appearing in Naruto Chapter #148 & Naruto Episode #85 This ability belonged to Shisui Uchiha and is considered the most powerful genjutsu of all time. The technique allows the user to enter the mind of any individual within their field of view, and manipulate them by giving them false experiences, making it seem as if they were doing things of their own free will.

It is regarded as a genjutsu of the highest caliber, due to the victim being entirely unaware that they are being manipulated. This is basically hypnosis of the highest order in the real world and surprisingly can be carried out if you train yourself in the art of hypnosis to perfection.

Kamui: Kamui is the word for the first divine being in Ainu mythology (The Ainu are an ethnic minority in Japan who have a unique language and religion). First appearing in Naruto Chapter #276 & Naruto Shippūden Episode #29, this ability belonged to Obito’s and Kakashi’s Sharingan.

In this, the user uses Space-Time Ninjutsu which allows the user to create a dimensional rift that can suck objects and individuals into another dimension. The user can also use Kamui for teleportation going in and out of the rift dimension themselves. It is something that is not entirely impossible but will require much deeper knowledge of space which will take at least a few generations.

A man getting sucked into a vortex

Izanagi: Taken from Izanagi-no-Mikoto, he is a god that can be said to be the beginning of the current Japanese imperial family. First appearing in Naruto Chapter #476 & Naruto Shippūden Episode #209, Izanagi is based on the Creation of All Things Technique, used by the Sage of Six Paths to turn imagination into reality.

In exchange for the brief control over reality that Izanagi grants, the Sharingan that they perform it with becomes blind; only awakening the Rinnegan restores the eye’s vision. Because the Uchiha prized their Sharingan, to lose it in this way prompted them to label it kinjutsu(forbidden technique). To fiction to become real.

Izanami: Izanami-no-Mikoto, is the creator deity of both creation and death in Japanese mythology, as well as the Shinto mother goddess. She and her brother-husband Izanagi are the last of the seven generations of primordial deities that manifested after the formation of heaven and earth.

Izanami and Izanagi are held to be the creators of the Japanese archipelago and the progenitors of many deities, which include the sun goddess Amaterasu, the moon deity Tsukuyomi, and the storm god Susanoo.

First appearing in Naruto Chapter #586 & Naruto Shippūden Episode #337, it is also a Kinjutsu along with Izanagi, it is a genjutsu that affects the target through physical sensations shared between them and the user to perform the illusion, whilst, under the effects of the technique, the target stands motionlessly as the loop of events continually replays inside their mind. Reanimated Itachi used this technique to end the fourth great ninja war in a matter of moments. Can be achieved by mastery over hypnosis.

Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan: If overuse of the Mangekyo Sharingan has turned you blind, all is not yet lost, you may simply take the eyes of another being who has also awakened their Mangekyo Sharingan just as Sasuke awakened his in Naruto Shippūden Episode #216 by implanting Itachi’s eyes upon his own.

The Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan doesn’t have the weakness of going blind with time and usage. It enhances your speed, strength, and perception, gives you a perfect Susanoo, enhances your original mangekyo ability along with granting you an enhanced version of the donator/victim’s mangekyo ability.

Conclusion

The Sharingan is one of the most powerful kekkei genkai in the Naruto world. It grants the user a variety of powerful abilities, including enhanced perception, predictive capabilities, jutsu copying, and genjutsu casting. The Mangekyo Sharingan is an even more powerful form of the Sharingan that grants the user unique abilities specific to each user. It will always remain a fan favorite, in hopes of Sharingan becoming a reality within our lifetimes, here is a Christmas carol sung by all Uchihas in their afterlife:

Jingle Bells, Itachi smells, Kakashi ran away;
Neji died, Naruto cried, Madara all the way!
