It Was Perfect. Perfect. Everything. Down To The Last-Minute Details
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was perfect because firstly the characters were remarkably comic accurate and there were an abundant amount of characters, which is icing on the cake for anyone who has ever been a keen comics reader or has an interest in the Spider-verse at all because there were some very legendary characters such as Spider-Man 2099, Ben Riley, Tobey spidey, Andrew spidey to name a few which was a treat to watch.
As far as the story goes it was Amazing and Spectacular to say the least, bringing an underused villain with superb potential as the main antagonist of the plot while focusing on various other tracks and not losing focus from any is no less than genius.
In the first movie, the focus was on why Miles Morales should learn to be Spider-Man and always help people whereas in this movie. The focus is on why Miles sometimes should hold back and let things happen, accept things as they are, and not always run towards trying to give a solution to every problem.
This is supported by one of the main themes of the movie being “canon events” which by definition are events that are set to happen in every Spider-Man‘s life which will result in making that specific being a good Spider-Man or Spider-Man at all in some cases, which makes it very important for Miles to learn that every time he cannot stop every bad event that’s going to happen, sometimes he has to accept fate and reality.
The movie’s pacing was bliss as well, as it did not feel even for a moment that the story is progressing extremely slowly or fast. It was easy for any audience member to keep being engaged with the screen for the entire time in the hall even though it is a long movie it did not feel like a long one because the engagement and entertainment factor was so high.
The direction and art style are phenomenal as well, to say the least, as it was dynamic and colorful yet pleasant to the eyes, which helps in getting the audience into the story.
There were some wow moments as well, to make it easier for the audience to love the movie with all their heart, such as the Indian Spider-Man which was a dream come true to see on screen, especially for the Indian audience. Even the spider punk character gave a very good kick to the story as he even taught Miles how to properly use his bio-electric powers and a touch of fun and was also added due to the original Peter Parker from Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse who now has a daughter known as “Mayday Parker”, the daughter of Peter and MJ.
Even though there is a lot to see where the story is going to take us. But this movie specifically, is perfect in every aspect, down to the last minute.
The Spider-Society
One of the other central Spider-Man universes in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is Earth-928, the Spider-Society HQ’s universe. We see it as a very active venue and host to Spider-Men from almost the entirety of the Spider-verse.
This universe is futuristic in its design compared to others, as there are flying cars, a rocket train to the moon, and more. This is Miguel O’Hara’s original universe and is set in the year 2099.
He seemingly returns to Nueva York on Earth-928 to begin building the Spider-Society after stopping a Canon Event when he traveled to another universe, which made him understand the importance of maintaining order in the multiverse.
Who Is The Real Hero Miles Or Miguel?
As the plot progresses, it is observed that there is a conflict of ideas between Miles Morales and Miguel O’Hara backed by the Spider Society. This conflict later even leads to a chase of Miles by the Spider Society as well as a semi-heated battle between Miles and all the Spider-Men and Spider-Women.
The conflict itself was that Miguel O’Hara believes that letting the cannon events take place even if they are causing the death of a known or a loved one is the right course of action as in not disrupting the Canon event we are protecting the spider-verse itself from collapsing, while Miles believes that the right course of action is to disrupt the Canon event if it leads to the life of a loved one being saved.
In my opinion, Miguel O’Hara’s course of action makes more sense as the consequences of Canon event disruption can be catastrophic at a multiversal scale, as a superhero he has a broader point of view and understands that the life of a loved one cannot outweigh the consequence of putting the entire multiverse at risk as with great power comes great responsibility and sacrifices, also his theory is derived from experience and logic whereas Miles’s suggested course of action is purely emotional.
Is “Miles” Miles Away From Being A True Spider-Man?
According to the revelations in this movie, Miles becoming Spider-Man, itself is not a cannon event as, the spider that bit Miles Morales was not from his universe hence Miles Morales from Earth-1610, who is the protagonist of these movies is not supposed to be a Spider-Man rather someone from Earth-42 was supposed to be bitten by that specific spider.
This anomaly has led to an unaccounted-for Spider-Man existence, every moment of whose existence is a threat to reality itself, there’s no saying which action of his might lead to a catastrophic disruption of a canon event, as he almost caused one on Earth-50101, if not for the immediate response of the spider-society, we might have lost Mumbattan and Pavitra Prabhakar forever.
So, even tho Miles Morales from Earth-1610 might be a good Spider-Man, he is in reality miles away from ever being a true Spider-Man.
What’s Next?
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse takes its time introducing new characters and calamities, but it all ends on a cliffhanger, but, as confirmed by a closing title card, Miles’ story will continue in a third chapter in the series titled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse that’s currently set to be released March 29, 2024.
