The Continental

was a much-awaited John Wick prequel which was released last September with Colin Woodel as its lead. In an interview with ‘Movie Web’, John Wick actor Ian McShane shared how he felt about the new spin-off based on the character Winston Scott, that McShane portrayed in all four installments of John Wick. The 81-year-old actor made it clear in his statement that he is not happy about this new project.

“I Think It’s Come And Gone, Hasn’t It?”- Ian McShane On The New Spin-Off.

The actor shared that he hasn’t watched the show and doesn’t have any intentions to do so. He clearly stated that neither he was aware of this project nor was any one of them (Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski) even inquired about it for their opinion. Since they weren’t interested in asking him so, there is no reason for him to watch the show. According to the actor, this is just another failed attempt to make money in the name of the fan-favorite original.

“No, I wouldn’t watch it. I have no intentions- nobody- I don’t think Keanu watched it, and neither has Chad. It had nothing to do with our movies. It’s just a question of a TV company cashing in on the series and taking the option to air it. They never asked us about anything so why would I be interested in seeing it? I’m afraid their arrogance in getting the show out is beyond me so I wish them well. I think it’s come and gone, hasn’t it?”

After the fourth chapter of John Wick, fans were looking forward to seeing how the world of criminals and John Wick would expand. One of the first announcements was the Prequel for the movies back in July 2023.

Why Did The Show Miss The Mark?

Three men standing

The show, set in the 1970s, is the origin story of the popular John Wick character Winston Scott who is the manager of the Continental Hotel in New York which is also considered as a safe zone for killers and criminals. The peacock spin-off series wasn’t hyped as much as it should have been, it did have mixed reviews by the fans. Some claim that the pacing of the show is slow whereas some wrote that few of the action scenes were good but nothing can be compared to what Chad Stahelski created.

Three episodes spanning 90 minutes have been released but originally the idea was to make it a 10-episode TV show.

However, it was cut down to three episodes and so far, the series has not been renewed for a second season. One of the producers Marc Bernardin, of the show found it odd and didn’t agree with some of the decisions especially the casting for one of the characters in the show.

“Casting decisions were made, one of which I’d have fought tooth and nail against, but would have likely lost as I wasn’t the showrunner and the buck doesn’t stop with me.”

The show has its drawbacks. Well, Screen Rant has pointed out 10 of them on why did the show missed the mark. Was the plot too cliched? Or the fans were just eager to see Keanu reprise his role again.

The American Star actor didn’t hold back in denouncing the new series as he even said that the series has nothing to do with the movies which make us wonder why wasn’t Chad involved in this project. If we are talking about expanding the universe of John Wick, truth be told The Continental didn’t do as much as it should have. Despite the buzz, the show couldn’t catch up to the expectations of the fans. The visionary director behind the John Wick franchise, Chad Stahelski will be producing Ballerina the next project of the same universe starring Ana de Armas, and Ian McShane which has been postponed to 2025.
