AI, Artificial Intelligence was always seen as a stepping stone to the new world of technology which it still is but the repercussions have always been present since the day the concept was introduced. AI has made a huge drift in many fields but people behind the crafting of music, and cinema have shared their fear of Artificial Intelligence taking over their jobs which will lead to the fall of the economy.
Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Stevie Wonders, and many more artists have spoken against the use of AI tools for generating music. More than 200 music artists in alliance with Artists Rights have come together to show their support for the petition to cease the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The letter points out two main ‘trends’ which are using AI to make “to train and produce AI copycats”. Many artists are sharing their concern over digitally using their voices to create music which is a threat to the entire music industry because it pushes us to ask the question if a bot can mimic the voice or write lyrics for a song then human involvement is not needed anymore?

“We must protect against the predatory use of AI to steal professional artists’ voices and likenesses, violate creators’ rights, and destroy the music ecosystem,”
The list included the signatures of popular personalities from the music industry including Camilla Cabello, Finneas, Billy Porter, Imagine Dragons, J Balvin, Ja Rule, Jon Batiste, am Smith, Sheryl Crow, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Zayn Malik, many more.
Fight for a Cause, A fight Against AI at the Workplace
The drafted letter pointed out and requested some developers to not undermine creativity or use AI in such a manner that takes a direct toll at the lives of “workers’ livelihood”.
“AI developers, technology companies, platforms, and digital music services to cease the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to infringe upon and devalue the rights of human artists.”
Jen Jacobson, executive producer of ARA stated that workers are already struggling to make ends meet, “and now they have the added burden of trying to compete with a deluge of AI-generated noise”
This movement or rather this kind of protest happened last year. It must have rung a bell! SAG AFTRA strike where the workers demanded protection against AI. They negotiated a deal for the future so that one day you wake up and realize that your job doesn’t require a human touch anymore. They hired AI!
AI if used reasonably, is the new pathway to the future, but what is the cost? Last year it was the movie industry and this year it’s the music. What is next?
