The Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tale director Joachim Rønning shared his enthusiasm about this project which fans believed that it would never get a sequel as the project has been pushed and postponed by Disney multiple times. The director shared,

“I’m excited to be part of the Tron franchise and bring this new film to fans around the world. Tron: Ares builds upon the legacy of cutting-edge designs, technology, and storytelling. Now more than ever, it feels like the right time to return to the grid.”

“All is revealed!”

Tron: Ares stars Jared Leto as its lead. According to reports, ‘Ares’ is a computer program sent from the digital world to the real world on a secret and dangerous mission, to introduce Artificial Intelligence to mankind which will also be their first encounter with it.

The announced cast for the third installment of the 1984 cult-classic sci-fi film is Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson. Jared Leto is also among the list of producers which also includes Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Emma Ludbrook, and Steven Lisberger with Russell Allen as executive producer.  Steven M Lisberger is the visionary director, and screenwriter behind the fan-favorite sci-fi adventurer Tron (1982) and also the sequel Tron: Legacy (2010).

Tron (1982)

A MAAN WEARING A DIGITAL HELMET

Tron (1982) is still considered one of the films that used Computer Generated Imagery for the first time. But what many people don’t know is Tron was a “coin-operated” video game released back in 1982. The film became a ‘moderate success’ but received positive reviews from the fans and the critics. The film follows the story of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), a computer programmer at ENCOM who gets transported into a video game where he must play various games to escape from the digital world.

The movie also stars David Warner who plays Edward Dillinger, who is the bad guy. Let’s not delve deep into the storyline if you haven’t seen this iconic film!

Tron (2010)

After 28 years of Tron (1982), the second installment of the film was released with Lisberger as its co-producer which mainly focused on Kevin Flynn’s adult son Sam Flynn played by Garett Hedlund who receives a message from his father who leaves him when he was a child and never comes back. After receiving the message from his long-lost father, he gets transported to a virtual reality where he and his father must stop a dangerous program from unleashing evil in the real world.

What to expect from the next project of Tron?

With the release of the first look from the Tron, fans were quick to notice the most intricate details of the suit.  Apart from the red-colored aesthetics, there was one other detail revealed which was the name ‘Dillinger’ on the back of the suit. This points out to the possibility of Edward Dillinger returning which was last played by none other than the Oppenheimer actor Cillian Murphy. He played Ed Dillinger Jr which was not really explored much in the previous installment.

But this detail sets out for a possibility that will the character be returning in Tron Ares and if yes who will be playing it? It isn’t revealed yet if Ares is a reboot or the sequel to the 2010 Tron: Legacy.
