The Oscars 2024

also popular known as the 96th Academy Awards took place last night on 10 March at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, Los Angeles. With the Oscars, the award season has finally come to an end; to celebrate a wonderful year of Cinema. This year’s Oscars not only set the stage to acknowledge movies and their creators but also set apart some time for the Behind-the-Scenes workers and to give them their moment to shine.

The Oscars had its iconic moments from unexpected reunions to Oppenheimer winning 7 awards out of the 13 nominations it had. Jimmy Kimmel hosted the Oscars this year after 7 years and his opening monologue has our hearts. His witty comments about Robert Downey Jr, funny remarks about Ryan Gosling’s amazing genetics, and His sarcastically joking about Greta Gerwig’s Oscar snub made all his statements just as iconic and marvelous as he is. Some viewers found Kimmel’s jokes not funny, rude, and unnecessary. But if you ask me his jokes were decent enough as no one walked up to the stage to tell him to stop it!

Let’s look over the major awards!

The Oscar for Best Picture Goes To…

‘Can You Hear the Music’ as The Oscar for Best Picture is Oppenheimer. Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas created a movie that won more awards this year than any other picture by creating different milestones and setting its name on history. Oppenheimer won Best Picture even though we all knew about it beforehand but the competition in the category was tough.

Legendary actor Al Pacino presented the award and made it a fun moment when he was announcing the best picture as he said “I have to go to the envelope for that, And I will. Here, it comes and my eyes see, Oppenheimer” the audience was so busy in sharing a laugh that they didn’t realize for a split second that he wasn’t kidding until the music score by Ludwig Göransson started playing.

Other nominees were Poor Things, Barbie, the Zone of Interest, the Holdovers, American Fiction, Past Lives, Anatomy of the Fall, Maestro, and Killers of the Flower Moon.

Best Director

Well, we just can’t get enough of Chris Nolan, Can we? The Nominees for Best Director were Justine Triet, Martin Scorsese, Yorgos Lanthimos, Jonathan Glazer, and Christopher Nolan.

Christopher Nolan won his first Oscar in his career spanning over 20 years for Oppenheimer. He was nominated for Oscars in 2000 for Memento and Inception in 2010 for Original Screenplay. Back in 2017, he was nominated for best director for Dunkirk.

It has been so long but the Nolan fans always hoped that one day they would see the golden man of honor in his hand for his exceptional directing skills. And the day has finally come!

Best Actress

Jennifer Lawrence, Charlize Theron, Michele Yeoh, Sally Field, and Jessica Lang presented the Oscar for Best Actress to Emma Stone. The viewers were just as emotional as Stone herself because all the previous winners in the category were on stage. There was no doubt that it was such a powerful moment, and Emma winning her 2nd Oscar in her career is the youngest actor to achieve this dream which makes it even more memorable. Even though her voice was a little rough, she still managed to give her speech with elegance and perfection.

Best Actor

“For better or worse, we all are living in Oppenheimer’s world, so I would really like to dedicate this award to all the peacemakers everywhere.”

Cillian Murphy won an Oscar for Best Actor with his phenomenal performance as J. Robert Oppenheimer. Chris Nolan and his partner in cinema Cillian Murphy won their first Oscars together this year. The duo has made 5 movies together and if you ask me this pair will always be iconic. I can’t help but wonder what is going to be their next project.
